THINGS THAT MOVE a solo exhibition by Gene Eu
Things That Move is a solo exhibition by Malaysian artist Gene Eu, focusing on our Malaysian wildlife mammals. He paints langur, banteng, mainland serow, sambar deer, musang, tapir, elephants, tiger and various species of cats, many of which are threatened, in the hope that more Malaysians will discover the richness of diversity we have in Malaysia.
Gene Eu has recently returned home to Malaysia after spending 25 years living and practising in the US, both as an organic farmer and artist. Now based in Bentong, Pahang he continues to lead an agrarian lifestyle, balancing this with his artistic practice. For this exhibition, his concerns are the urgent need to protect our loss of diversity and how to innovate towards a more sustainable lifestyle where humans and nature can better co-exist.
Exhibition
Things That Move a solo exhibition by Gene Eu, a Malaysian artist with a profound dedication to sustainability and conservation, is a celebration of Malaysia's rich biodiversity, with Gene’s captivating series of paintings of wildlife mammals.
Reflecting on his inspiration for the exhibition, Gene enthused, "Malaysia is truly a hotbed in terms of its abundance of plants and wildlife species. For example, the entire continent of North America only has 4 species of felines, whereas Malaysia, with an area equivalent to just one American state boasts 7 or 8 species of felines. With this show I hope visitors will enjoy the simplicity of my paintings while learning about the incredible varieties of mammals we have in our backyard.”
